I've always wanted a Lexus LS400 (fat/wide/pimp). Not many around dallas to choose from in the year/model i want. I found this one; 1995 ls400DamonZ and I went on an errand in that direction, so we stopped by the dealer. The car was VERY clean. Interior smelled new. Idled fine. Checked for repairs and misaligned panels on the inside of the engine bay. kept thinking 60k miles? 1995? 60k miles? I found ONE panel misaligned inside the engine bay and this was the front left fender. They agreed to run carfax for me for free. WOOOPS. big mistake. The title showed as clear. But the car showed an accident in 1997 (with 40k miles). 2 months later it showed as being sold at auction in pennsylvania. 1 year later, it was sold at auction in the southwest region. Then it was registered and driven for an anverage of less then 5k miles a year (for 2 years, it was driven less the 1k miles). I still want to buy it because the price is right, but I **KNOW** it was a salvaged rehack. So I passed on it. I would have run the carfax anyway, the dealer swears it's not a salvage. Both Damon and I agree, it was a clean ass car. But what you DONT see may bite you. There's always another car. I *really* wish the DOT would quit allowing states to clean titles. And I wish DennisVirus (and his new screename) would quit selling 'cleaned' salvaged vehicles.
